Thank You / Obrigado!!!

We would like to thank all those who supported and attended the Balé Folclórico events in Philadelphia during the week of February 7-11, 2011. We received a lot of enthusiastic feedback about the opportunity to exchange with the members of Balé Folclórico through their workshops and other social networking events. This week has been an important step in laying the foundation for their next visit to Philadelphia. Please read the local press coverage of Balé's visit in these two articles:

The Philadelphia Tribune

Philadelphia Inquirer

We would also like to thank the members of Balé Folclórico for graciously and generously sharing their wealth of knowledge about Afro-Brazilian culture. The Philadelphia community greatly appreciated your presence here.

BALÉ FOLCLÓRICO DA BAHIA in Philadelphia February 7-11, 2011

Hailing from Salvador, in the northeastern state of Bahia, Balé Folclórico is Brazil’s premiere professional folk dance company. Formed in 1988, the 33-member troupe of dancers, musicians, and singers perform a repertory based on various "Bahian" folkloric dances of African origin including: capoeira (a form of martial arts), samba, and other cultural traditions celebrated during Carnival. Balé Folclórico represents Bahia’s most important cultural manifestations under a contemporary theatrical vision that reflect its popular origins. The company has a well-earned, prestigious reputation performing internationally throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
